DataMine notice
Outgoing mail server update
We are going to require SMTP authentication again. This will help reduce the virus and "transient delivery failure" error messages.
Most customers are setup to use SMTP Authentication when they send out email through our SMTP server at smtp.datamine.net. This change will not affect these customers.
If you not currently using smtp.datamine.net as your outgoing mail server or do not have SMTP Authentication setup in your email client, you may receive Authentication Errors when you sent email to an email address that we host.
Problem Scenarios:
Scenario A:
I send out through my ISPs SMTP mail server, but I use the email address that DataMine hosts for me as my Email Address.
Solution
- Use the Email Address that your ISP gave as your email address
- Use the email address that DataMine hosts for you as your Reply-To email address. Do this so that when some responses to your email, it will be sent to the email address that DataMine hosts for you.
Scenario B:
I send out through my ISPs SMTP mail server.
I cannot send out email through DataMine’s mail server since my ISP blocks port 25.
I use the email address that DataMine hosts for me as my Email Address and want to continue to do so.
Solution
- Write down you current email settings
- You will have to send email out through our mail server.
- Verify that you can connect to DataMine SMTP server on port 366
- In a DOS Prompt (start // run // command), type "telnet smtp.datamine.net 366". If you get a response from the server, you can connect on port 366.
- Update your SMTP server to be smtp.datamine.net
- This outgoing mail server requires authentication
- You can use the same account name and password that is used with pop3.datamine.net
- Make sure the “Use Secure Password Authentication is NOT checked
- In your advanced settings update your SMTP port to be port 366 (the normal SMTP port is 25)
Scenario C:
I send out email through smtp.datamine.net, but I do not have SMTP Authentication setup
Solution:
- You need to setup SMTP Authentication on your email client
- Setup SMTP Authentication
- You can use the same account name and password that is used with pop3.datamine.net
- Make sure the "Use Secure Password Authentication" is NOT checked
